As a holistic and trauma informed counselor, I offer a warm and safe environment to gather insight, and develop the tools to help integrate and resolve the challenges in your life. I view myself as an ally, gently and compassionately encouraging each individual to take the steps to help themselves heal. I believe each one of us often knows the best steps they can take to help them feel their strongest, but that sometimes we need support, encouragement and accountability to take those steps. My role as a therapist is to support you to walk your healthiest path. My approach to counseling is first and foremost about helping the people I work with to uncover where they feel blocked in life, and then to assist in gently moving through those obstacles. Sometimes this involves examining unresolved trauma, relationships, work, health and wellbeing, as well as underlying patterns of diet and lifestyle. As a holistic therapist, I also believe that healing does not just happen in the mind but in the body as well. If the body feels unwell, it is hard for the mind to function optimally. Because of this I strongly emphasize nourishment and somatic based therapies as cornerstones to good mental health. A well nourished body helps regulate emotions, diminishes anxiety and depression, strengthens cognitive function and improves an overall state of well being.
Sometimes illness and emotional distress can be a great gift, as it offers us the opportunity to slow down and tune in very carefully. Sometimes in the noise and distraction of every day life we can tune out our innermost voice, but dis-ease requires us to pay very close attention. And often paying attention leads to breakthroughs in insight and development of wisdom at a deep level. My goal is to assist clients to develop that insight, and make those breakthroughs that lead to positive transformation.
